West / East Coastguard Cottages Accessibility
This is an access statement for both the West Coastguard Cottage and East Coastguard Cottage, semi-detached cottages at Ross Farm, Belford, Northumberland. NE70 7EN.
Built originally for HM Coastguard, they have been fully modernised.

The nearest railway station is Berwick upon Tweed which is 15 miles by road. It is on the main east coast line. Taxis are available from Berwick and there is a limited bus service. The nearest village is Belford which is three miles by road.
The nearest airport is Newcastle upon Tyne which is 49 miles away by road. Car hire facilities are available at the airport.
Being set in a rural location and some miles from the nearest village/small town these cottages are not really suitable for guests without their own transport.
Each cottage has two bedrooms both on the first floor.
Arrival and Car Parking
Access is from the main A.1. road - two and a half miles away - a description of the route to Ross is enclosed with the booking confirmation. Each cottage has allocated parking for two cars beside the cottage. The car park is level with a hardcore surface. Each cottage key is collected from the Payphone building - the position of this is shown on the plan sent with the arrival details and entry is by the keypad on the door - the code is enclosed with the booking confirmation. There is one step 5cm high + 5cm thresh to gain access. The door has accessible width of 78cm. The key is located on a board fixed to the wall, height 135cm, behind the inward opening door. Within the building there is a payphone on a worktop which is 95cm high.
Having collected the key, please continue along the private farm road on to the cottage - about 300 metres - on the way there is a road barrier for which the code is attached to the cottage key.
Entrance and Hallway
For the West Coastguard Cottage there is a path with two 12cm steps down to a wicket gate, 109cm wide, opening onto a flagged path 22 metres long and then 8 metres of concrete to the entrance door 71cm wide with a 18cm step up, into the hallway.
For the East Coastguard Cottage there is path with a wicket gate, 107cm wide, then a 14cm step down onto a gravel path, 17 metres long, to two concrete steps up each 13cm high, and then a further 10 metres of concrete to the entrance door 70cm wide with a 18cm step up, into the hallway.
From the hallway, with a matted floor, there is a 67cm wide door to the bathroom, and a 72cm wide door with a 11cm step up into the kitchen/dining room. From there a 72cm wide door leads into the sitting room from where another door 72cm wide opens onto the staircase. The stairs are 75cm wide with 14 steps each with 20cm rise, and which curves round through 90 degrees.
The kitchen/dining room has wooden laminate style flooring. There is a dining table with seating for 4. The kitchen offer a range of fitted units and appliances. The worktop is at a standard height of 89cm and there is ample circulation space.
In the sitting room there is sofa and occasional furniture. There is ample circulation space
Upstairs. Door from landing is 67cm wide. King size double bed which is 69cm high. There is 50cm free space on either side.
Upstairs. Door from landing is 72cm wide. Twin beds, which are 60cm high.
Entrance from the hallway. Door 67cm wide.
Wash-basin 84cm high. Wc 41cm high.

Shower cubicle 80 x80cm with 44cm entrance.

There are two washing machines and a tumble drier in a separate Laundry building adjacent the cottages, which is also available for use by the Coastguard Lodge nearby. The door is 73cm wide.
On its South side each cottage has its own secluded lawned garden with garden furniture.
An Information folder is provided which contains information on the property, appliances and tourism information.
There is adequate mobile phone reception and free Wi-Fi for your laptop.
